It’s so sweet to hit the road with HoneyBox
Giving the opportunity for musicians to play the studio and broadcast live with the Hive project, is sweet. However, it has highlighted to us the bitter disappointment artistes experience when trying to secure gigs outside the area. So back in December, Honey Box took to the decision to step out of the studio and hit the road to livestream from live music venues.
And where better to start this venture than Stoke’s iconic Sugarmill. A curated show of Hotel Cola, Rosie Edwards and Scott Walklate ensured a diverse programme of differing genres performed on the 6th December, in the first of our “out of studio” shows.
Small music venues are the gateway to musicians developing their skills, creativity and learning, for example, how to relate to audiences. It’s not just playing skills that are honed, but performance confidence is built in these venues. The Sugarmill were brilliant in supporting this initiative and are looking to extend their support for local grass roots music, which is very sweet of them!
The show attracted an audience of around 70 people on the night, with 285 views online. Subsequent publishing of the show and also individual single cut videos have attracted thousands of views, with the show video on Facebook alone receiving over 800 plays. There’s been lots of use by the individual artistes to promote themselves, and they’ve also seen an increase in bookings for them to play locally!
Streaming music effectively opens up the artistes to a wider audience and, in the case of Honey Box, provides great quality promotional material to attract people to see the artistes live in venues.
For PH Productions this was a continuation of the support and development of local creative people. They provided all the technical equipment, including lighting, sound, cameras and everything needed for live streaming. When outside the confines of the studio, the focus turns to the transportation and set up of the technology within a defined production deadline. Just doing what we love to do, ready for showtime!
So, what’s next…
We’re heading east on February 16th to Leicester’s 2Funky Arts Complex with a local musician – Cocoh, and two acts from Leicester, Harri Georgio and Izzy Seville.
