Launching the New Honey Box Hive Project for Local Musicians

To continue supporting local musicians, we’re proud to introduce the new Honey Box Hive project at King Street Studios, Newcastle-under-Lyme — a new phase of creative development for artists in our region.

This exciting initiative builds on our deep connection with Staffordshire’s music scene, offering meaningful opportunities for growth, collaboration, and exposure.

Why the New Honey Box Hive Project Matters

Through this programme, we aim to help artists flourish. After speaking with musicians and bands across the area, we’ve identified a need for structured guidance and access to industry knowledge. As a result, we will:

  • Explore the current landscape of the music industry in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent
  • Gather insight into what musicians need to advance their careers
  • Offer skill-building sessions led by professionals

These insights shape the project’s direction, ensuring that what we deliver directly supports the creative community.

Workshops, Panels, and Professional Support

Based on artist feedback, we are hosting a series of free events. These include practical workshops, panel discussions, and hands-on sessions covering topics such as:

  • Career development strategies
  • Marketing and promotion tips
  • Live sound and lighting skills

These events will not only support musicians but also create valuable learning opportunities for local sound and lighting engineers.

Hive Live Show: A Monthly Performance Platform

The programme also introduces a monthly live show, streamed from the studio. Each performance will showcase talented local acts playing live for an intimate audience. This initiative continues our long-standing tradition of promoting live music in Staffordshire.

Expanding the Original Honey Box Vision

As the Honey Box reaches the end of its seventh series, this new initiative takes the concept further. According to Co-Producer Peter Herbert:

“This is a great opportunity to build on the work started by the Honey Box. It allows us to engage with local artists, understand their career goals, and offer the right kind of support to help them grow.”

Collaborating with Musicians Every Step of the Way

Project lead Lee Barber, who founded the Honey Box, is eager to launch this next chapter:

“At King Street, we’ve run the Honey Box for eight years. Now we’re excited to take it further. We’re not pretending to have all the answers — we want to find them alongside musicians and help them reach their goals.”
